Derek is the Associate Director for the City of Vancouver’s Neighbourhood Energy Utility, where he leads the expansion, operation, and decarbonization of a district heating network that is redefining how we view waste—transforming sewage into a source of low‑carbon heat for some of Vancouver’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

With a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and gritty determination, Derek is driven to decarbonize buildings at scale, bringing over a decade of hands-on experience and technical expertise to help the City he loves unlock hidden waste heat resources and accelerate the transition to a low‑carbon future.
